THE MISSONI LOOK FOR LESS! Tasha, The Bay Area Style Guru, Guest Blogs About this Iconic Look!

Friday, May 18th, 2012

The Missoni Zig Zag pattern has become an iconic look to all Fashionistas; these bold and bright prints make a style statement that it is both luxe and sporty at the same time.
Acquiring any piece with a Missoni label could instantly set a girl’s checkbook into the red but this season, there are several great ways to rock the Missoni look without breaking the bank!

The Original: Missoni Zig Zag Pointtelle Dress, around $700

Who doesn’t adore this gorgeous Missoni dress with the classic Zig Zag pattern?

But if you can’t afford to drop close to a grand one a dress, try his adorable little number from Forever 21 to evoke the same chic vibe!

Try: Forever 21 Grey Zig Zag dress around $25

Missoni label accessories have become the style gold standard but now designers of all price points are featuring a variation of the Zig Zag design- try adding one cool element of this look into your wardrobe for instant “Fashion Cred”

Here are a few of my fave affordable Missoni inspired accessories that are sure to become key pieces in your wardrobe this season:

An oversized handbag with a bold print is a fashion forward look for any occasion.

Try: Big Buddha Handbag around $95

Rock a pair of fierce wedge sandals with Missoni- inspired Zig Zags to add interest to any neutral outfit- wear these with skinny white jeans or a trendy hi-lo hemline skirt to make a major fashion statement!

Try: Fergie “Bonita” platform sandal. Around $99

A beautiful scarf is always a luxurious way to add flair to any outfit!

Try:  Zig Zag patterned scarf from Sundance.com around $45

A fantastic manicure always makes you look pulled together and on trend- I love experimenting with new shades and looks for every new season and this “Missoni Mani”  is definitely on my fashion “to do list”!!

Great style doesn’t always mean a fat bank account; with good taste and creativity, you CAN rock a Missoni look for less but still look like a million bucks!!

BELTS! Nigel Isaiah, Guest Blogs about This all Too Essential Accessory.

Monday, May 14th, 2012

Cinched At The Waist

By Nigel Isaiah

Ladies when your out shopping do you ever look on the tags on accessories to find the “Accessory Facts”? You know like the label that’s on the back of a pack of Halls Cough Drops or any medicine you may purchase only its labeled “Drug Facts”. Well I have searched for that tag and its not there, but if they did come with that tag on a belt under the word purpose it would say “Cinch at the Waist”, however they do more than just that.

CINCHED!

Just like other accessories belts are an additional element that should enhance your look. It can be that extra piece to add that safari feel or be that third color component to your color-blocked outfit. Whatever you want your belt to do to your look there are a couple things to remember when your looking for the right one to purchase. One, they are not a seasonal piece, most women wear them all year so if you are looking to splurge make sure it will be perfect to cinch that maxi in the summer and your cape in the fall.  Belts are not just for loose flowy garments, so it is fine to add a belt with a dress that is already fitted at the waist.
Ladies make sure you add belts to you spring and summer essential list this year! Of course I have given you some fabulous options to choose, so will you be investing in any of these?
1. MICHAEL Michael Kors $45  http://www.michaelkors.com/
2. H&M $9.95 http://www.hm.com/us/
3. Zara $79.90 http://www.zara.com/
4. BCBGMAXAZRIA $78.00 http://www.bcbg.com/home/index.jsp
5. Friend Of Mind $249.00 http://www.madebyafriendofmine.com.au/shop/index.php

SOCKS and SANDALS?!?!? Together? This Season it can be DONE!

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Niamh of the fashion blog, ditzydaydreams.blogspot.com, guest blogs and gives us permission to wear Socks and Sandals this season.  If you have tried this trend please upload a photo of you trying this out at fashbo.com ~f1

——

How does a fashion faux pas become a trend?

Once something reserved for biblical characters and old men at the beach, socks and sandals were a massive fashion no-no! But this season, where, lets be honest, all the fashion rules are going out the window, Socks and sandals are hot property.

SANDALS!

Now, I don’t mean that your favourite black socks and a pair of gladiators can go together. Not any pair of socks and sandals can be paired, they have to be cute, statement socks and think sandals with a nice chunky heel. This trend especially works in the current uncooperative weather, which cannot decide if it is cold or hot, as it means you can wear your favourite summer shoes, with some cute socks to prevent you getting frostbite in your toes!

About our guest blogger:

Fashion Week Goes Digital & Fashion on Twitter. Caroline Vazzana guest blogs on Technology and fashion.

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

Fashion Week goes Digital

Fashion Week is a very exciting time in the fashion industry. Attending fashion week is a once in a life time experience that only a select few get to witness. It is now possible though to get the best seat in the house for free. Runway shows are now being shown live on the internet. Fall/Winter 2012 fashion week definitely impressed with fashion and it was extremely easy to watch. Many of the shows were aired live on the designer’s websites, Facebook pages, You-tube and other websites. On February 13th Betsey Johnson’s runway show took place, on www.betseyjohnson.com. Viewers were given a backstage look and were able to watch a live interview with Betsey herself. Also the online viewers had a better seat than some of the people who actually attended the show.

Many fashion editors and buyers state that fashion week is a very tiring and stressful time, and that is slowly becoming a thing of the past. According to KCD, (one of the leading fashion public relations and production agencies worldwide), co-president Ed Filipowski, the digital runway shows provide “all the information and materials needed to review, cover and potentially buy the collection, just like a physical show, but each of the invited guests has a front row seat and behind the scenes access at their fingertips” Digital runway shows is a true luxury, sitting on your couch with your favorite fashion shows, truly a dream come true. You-tube has been a prime source driving digital fashion shows. It even featured live stream footage from New York Fashion Week. You-tubes page titled “Live from the Runway Fall 2012” is sponsored by Maybelline New York, and is solely devoted to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Aside from featuring every designer’s runway show, You-tube also includes behind the scenes footage, a backstage pass with Maybelline, and fashion trends. In addition all of the shows remain on You-tube for convenient viewing. But with all this technology will live runway shows one day become a thing of the past? What do you think, could this be a step in the right direction?

Fashion on Twitter!

Being a fashion student, it is extremely important to stay up to date on the latest news of the fashion industry. Today though, this has become extremely easy through online social networks like Twitter. Twitter is not only a way to stay connected with friends; it is also a great way to stay connected with designers, stylists, and everything happening in the fashion industry. Twitter allows users to step right into the corporate offices of your favorite brands. Betsey Johnson for example, is one designer who is always updating her Twitter. Betsey Johnson is always tweeting about sales on her website, backstage pictures at photo shoots, pictures of her corporate office, her employees, and what is happening with her and her company every day. February 13th marked Betsey’s fall 2012 runway show. To promote the show, Betsey Johnson’s Twitter had a countdown and backstage pictures every day.

Twitter also has a partnership with New York Fashion Week for advertisement purposes. This season though, for the first time Twitter had also partnered up with London Fashion Week. The British Fashion Council even worked with Twitter. They created the hash tag #LFW and @LondonFashionWk to help promote this event.

Michael Kors, Juicy Couture, Anna Sui, Louis Vuitton and countless other well-known designers are on Twitter. Every day they post on Twitter, an inside view of their companies and their lives. Renowned stylist Rachel Zoe even gives fashion advice on Twitter and answers questions from her fans. Vogue, Elle, and Bazaar Magazine along with Women’s Wear Daily are also on Twitter every day discussing fashion. So create a Twitter account today to have access to all the latest fashion news and tips, it will put you one step ahead.

Meg, of the blog, Fashionably Meg reviews H&M’s Conscious Collection

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

“Sustainable fashion”  Two words that have been thrown around a great deal lately.  In case you are unsure of what sustainable fashion is, Wikipedia opens its article around sustainable fashion with:

“Sustainable fashion, also called eco fashion, is a part of the growing design philosophy and trend of sustainability, the goal of which is to create a system which can be supported indefinitely in terms of environmentalism and social responsibility.”

Meg, of the blog, Fashionably Meg , reviews H&M’s Conscious Collection.  No doubt we will be seeing more collections like this from H&M and others.

~fashbo1

————>

Okay, i don’t know why it took me this long to review this collection, but i think i was just trying to review without sounding over-dramatic. Basically, this collection is my spirit animal. I love everything about it. It’s a bit 70′s with a modern edge on cuts and fabrics. I love H&M, and this collection just proves our relationship is a two way street. The most beautiful aspect of these designs are the simple, minimalistic styles. Getting back to the basics is a fresh take on fashion amongst couture and runway collections.

H&M - Conscious Collection

WOMENS

The women’s collection is made up of delicate cuts, pastel colors, sheer fabric and wearable couture. I don’t know what is more appealing, the gorgeous designs or the affordable prices.

H&M - Conscious Collection

Men’s

The men’s line is made up of wardrobe staples; $10 button ups, well constructed white blazers and collared polos. I think designers often forget how beautiful clothing can be without plunging necklines, skin-tight booty shorts and crop tops.

H&M - Conscious Collection

H&M - Conscious Collection

This collection is classic, edgy, young & self explanatory: conscious.
Take a look at the Conscious Collection for yourself over at H&M’s website.

MAXI DRESS! Ale of StyledByAle.com Shows how Petite’s can Pull off a Maxi Dress

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

Some women hovering around 5 feet can fear the Maxi Dress.  Ale, of StyledByAle.com, (Twitter: @StyledbyAle) , shows off her Maxi dress and proves, you don’t have to be tall to pull off a Maxi!

———->

Being a petite girl I always wondered if Maxi dresses would look right on me. I would browse the racks and stare at the dresses but never dared to buy one because I always assumed that a long dress would only make me look shorter. Being 5’0 I always opted for dresses above my knee and nude colored heels to make my legs look longer, but then I thought “well why not?” so I went for it, and purchased my very first Maxi and fell in love with it.

If your a petite girl like myself and want to go for a maxi dress, DO IT! Remember, rules were meant to be broken :) .

A few tips when wearing a maxi… Make sure to wear it with high heels and if it’s still too long have it altered.

This season’s COVER UP! Tasha, the Bay Area Style Guru, shares with us these amazing cover-ups!

Friday, April 20th, 2012

The days are getting longer and brighter, so all we Fashionistas are excited to rock those cute tank tops and strappy dresses once again!

Unfortunately, this early in the season it can get a bit chilly when the sun goes down but who wants to ruin a cute outfit with a dumpy old sweater?

Well thankfully, there are now several stylish ways to cover up while still looking cute!
Here are my four faves:
The Open Knit :

This season’s open knit tops give you added coverage while still showing off all the details of your great outfit! This BoHo inspired trend truly is the perfect compliment to tank tops or maxi dresses.

Example: This fab teal number by Free People!

The Open Knit

The Shrug:

For a more tailored look, a sweet little shrug will warm your shoulders while still allowing your outfit to take center stage! This look is classic and goes from office wear to a night out without missing a beat!

Example: This feminine white shrug by Vince Camuto!

The Shrug

Denim Jacket:

Denim has made a major comeback this season and these jackets are now considered the ultimate in hip and stylish outerwear! Paired with cropped pants or a sexy dress, this look can easily be dressed up or down for any occasion.

Example: Paige Denim Jacket!

Denim Jacket

The Scarf:

Possibly THE most versatile accessory in any girl’s closet has to be a fantastic looking scarf!  Not only will it keep the goosebumps away when the air turns chilly, a great scarf can instantly make any neutral outfit super chic!

Example: A scarf made from a beautiful material with Fabu detailing is a MUST HAVE!

The Scarf

The key is to cover up without creating outfit camouflage! With these great looks, it’s easy to stay warm AND stylish at the same time!

Collar/Bib Necklaces

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Moren of GlamTimeChic, (glamtimechic.blogspot.com) Presents the Trend:

Collar/Bib Necklaces

I am a new young fashion blogger (GlamTimeChic), hoping to share my style and inspire others. One trend that I am absolutely in love with this season is the bib/collar necklace trend. The best thing about this statement piece is that it can be worn day and night.

Some great ways to wear these amazing necklaces are to pair one of these necklaces with a V-neck top, buttoning a blouse shirt all the way to the top and place the collar necklace so it peeks under the collar of the shirt, wear a collar necklace with a strapless dress or top. These statement necklace can make any ordinary outfit very chic.

I purchased my favorite collar necklace from Forever 21 and this is how I would pair it.

For more information about the rest of my outfit visit: Glamtimechic.blogspot.com
