In Fashbo1’s never ending pursuit of real people pursuing fashion, Fashbo1 came across a blog dealing with the modeling industry, allaboutmodels.blogspot.com, and shared with other fashbo crew members. The crew was impressed by the copious amount of information and photos in the Blog. There was obviously someone dedicated behind the scenes putting a large amount of time and effort into writing almost daily submissions. The fashbo crew is impressed by dedicated lovers of fashion and approached the owner of this blog, Samira, who resides in Germany, and asked if she would commit to being profiled in our “fashbo virtual interview”. Samira promptly agreed, and less than a week later, we received her responses. The fashbo crew was shocked to find that Samira is only 14 years old. There are millions of fashion savvy teenagers in the world as we have seen from a number of fashbo submissions. What makes Samira special is her drive, passion, commitment and quality of her Blog. It is our belief that Samira most definitley has a future somewhere in the ecosystem of fashion/style and we are pleased she has agreed to be a subject of a fashbo virtual interview:
1. Tell us about yourself. Where are you from? Can you draw fashion inspiration from where you live?
My name is Samira. I’m almost 15 and still in school. I live in Germany, in a small city near the town of Hamburg. I would say yes I can draw a little inspiration from my environment. But I have mostly found my own style. I love to see fashion shows like our fashionweek in Berlin. Berlin grew to be a true fashion mecca in the last few years, I believe it is comparable with London some day.
2. What is fashion to you?
I can’t imagine my life without fashion. I love to see and be seen in beautiful clothes. I especially enjoy exploring the detail of the clothing. Much goes into an article of fashion: The colors, the materials, the designers, the assemblers and the models, who wear them first to wear the fashion. It is important to understand that everyone’s taste in fashion is unique and we should always respect this.
3. How would you describe your personal style?
I would describe my personal style as simple but interesting. I love to wear black, blue and gray. Each season brings new trends which I like to wear. Currently, I would compare my style with Gucci and their collection from Autumn/Winter 2008/9. I like leather leggings, skinny jeans, knee long dresses, dark colors and smooth hair.
4. Describe your perfect outfit ensemble.
A pair of black second skin jeans, a short, elegant dress with a pair of leather knee long boots, and over sized sunglasses.
5. Name your favorite and least favorite past or present fashion trend/fad.
I adore wegdes, they are one of my favorite discoveries. I am not a fan of the return of wide coloured trousers. They remind me of pyjamas.
6. What is your favorite fashbo you posted? Do you have a favorite fashbo that someone else posted?
My favorite fashbo is “Well Simply Great for an Afternoon“ I love the colors of this outfit. My favorite fashbo someone else posted was by
fashionfreak94, “balmain jacket” I really love that jacket!, It looks great and is so unique.. I also liked her “La Roux Style“. The leggings/trouser impressed me very much!
7. Who is your favorite designer or designers
My favourite designers are: Calvin Klein, I Love CK’s colors and their cuts are great. I also love Gucci, because they have casual clothes that are also sexy.
8. You have a fashion blog @ http://allaboutmodels.blogspot.com which you started in June 2009. How are
you finding the process of writing a blog? Any advice for others thinking about starting a blog of their own?
Anyone can write a blog as it is very simple and easy to set one up. The difficult aspect of blogging is attracting an audience. Let the fashion be your inspiration and let that inspiration guide you. I’m writing all of my thoughts down and compiling them for my blog. You need to create interesting posts and do a good deal of promotion for your blog. Most importantly you need to devote the time necessary to do all of the things I just mentioned well.
9. What led you to write a blog about modeling? Are you a model yourself and/or connected to the industry?
I am not a model. When I was 11, I bought my first Vogue with Doutzen Kroes on the cover and thought, WOW!. Over the last 4 years my interest in models and modeling has grown. I decided I would turn that love and interest for modeling into my own blog, I wanted to create the blog to represent my interest and not someone elses. When I started the blog I had no connections into the industry. Over the past few months as the blog has grown in popularity I started to build connections with agencies from all over the world. I would like my future career to be in model booking for a large agency.
10. Any advice for those interested in becoming a model?
You should think twice if you really want to become a model as it is a difficult industry to break into. If you are sure and committed to modeling then you should take a number of photos without make up. Send these photos to as many agencies in your home country as possible. The best advice I can give is to be patient.
11. How do you pick the models that are featured in your blog?
The modeling agencies I have connections with send me a large number of photos. If I like them, I will feature them on my Blog. Occasionally I will come across a fresh face that I would like to feature in the blog. In this case, I ask the agency if I can feature her photo(s) on my Blog. Most of the models that I post to the Blog have an edgy, unusual look.
12. Who is your favorite model?
My all time favourite models are: Masha Tyelna, Viktoriya Sasonkina & Yulia Leontieva.
13. What is your favorite retail place to shop? Online place to shop?
My favourite shop is H&M, Zara, Pépé London. H&M has great prices while staying trendy. I love their high quality, good price selection of shoes. In terms of online shops I like Topshop (we don’t have Topshop here in Germany).
14. What is your dream job?
My dreamjob is to become a modelbooker in a modeling agency. If this doesn’t happen, I would like to become a fashion editor at a magazine like Vogue.
15. Were you able to learn anything from the last blog post from princessswag? If so what was it?
She seems to be really into fashion. She also loves Chanel, which creates nice dresses. I also think she is a talented person with an amazing Blog. She should following her dreamjob to become a fashion stylist. Her Fashbo’s are awesome!
